Fins to the left!
Huntington Pier
Friday, August 9, 2024
Last Friday I drove down to Huntington Beach to check out a little bit of the U.S. Open of Surfing. Making it there at daybreak, I watched some pre-competition surfing from some of the women who would be battling it out with each other in the actual heats of the contest that day. A few standouts who surfed in the Friday morning’s first two heats were Nadia Erostarbe, Kirra Pinkerton, and Sierra Kerr. (Australia’s Sally Fitzgibbons won this year’s title.)
After the second heat I caught some waves on the north side of the pier, dodging the contest hype and crowd.
A great way to spend the morning!
Below are a few of the shots I took from the beach. Forgive me for not being able to ID the surfers, except for Kirra Pinkerton in the white jersey.
